Walking into a martial arts gym for the first time is the hardest part — and it is almost always easier than people expect. Here is exactly how your first Muay Thai class at Flow Academy Indio goes, start to finish, so there are no surprises.
You do not need experience — really
The large majority of people who start with us have never thrown a punch or a kick on pads. Muay Thai classes are built so beginners learn footwork and fundamentals first, at their own pace. You will not be thrown into anything you are not ready for.
What to wear and bring
Comfortable athletic clothes — shorts and a t-shirt are perfect. We train barefoot on the mats, so wear shoes that slip on and off easily. Bring a water bottle. You do not need gloves, wraps, or any gear for your first class; we provide what you need to get started, and if you keep training we will point you to the right gloves and shin guards later.
How the hour runs
A typical class is about an hour and follows the same rhythm every time: a warm-up to get loose, the technique of the day taught step by step, padwork and partner drills to put it into your body, and a cool-down at the end. Coaches keep an eye on new students and adjust as needed.
Is there sparring on day one?
No. New students build technique on pads and bags first. Any live work comes much later, and even then it is optional, controlled, and coach-supervised. Padwork-first is not a slogan for us — it is how the room actually runs.
Kids and families
Youth classes (ages 5-9 at 5:00 PM, ages 10-14 at 6:00 PM) run on the same Monday and Wednesday evenings as the adult class at 7:00 PM, so plenty of parents and kids train back-to-back and make it their family routine.
Your first class is free
There is no better way to know if Muay Thai is for you than to try it. Your first class is free — come watch, meet Coach Adrian, and give it a shot. Book online or text us and we will set you up.
